Sample Collection Instructions
Follow these steps carefully to ensure proper collection of the breath sample.
Step 1: Label Your Collection Bag
Complete a sample label with:
- Sample number
- Collection time
- Collection date
- Full name
- Date of birth
Attach the label to a deflated collection bag.
Step 2: Attach the Mouthpiece
Securely attach the mouthpiece to the valve. Ensure the small hole on the mouthpiece is facing upward.
Turn the valve cap counterclockwise until it reaches the fully open position.
Step 3: Collect Your Breath Sample
Take a deep breath and exhale continuously into the mouthpiece.
Air will initially escape through the small opening at the top. After approximately two seconds, cover the opening with your finger while continuing to exhale, allowing the bag to inflate.
Only one breath should be collected per bag.
Step 4: Seal the Collection Bag
Turn the valve cap clockwise until fully closed.
Remove the mouthpiece from the valve after sealing the bag.
Step 5: Consume the Substrate Drink
After collecting your first sample, consume your prescribed substrate drink.
- Lactulose: 10gm in a 15ml solution with or followed by one cup (8oz) of water.
- Glucose: Consume the full 75 g dose provided. Wait 15 minutes before collecting the next sample.
Step 6: Collect Remaining Samples
Repeat Steps 1–4 for the remaining eight breath collection bags.
Allow 15 minutes between each sample collection and ensure every label is completed accurately with the correct collection time.
